I believe that the Easter Rising was the turning point in Irish history that allowed the discontented Republicans to exhibit their maltreatment in a form that gave significance and value to their opinions. To put it simply, I believe that if there had been no Easter Rising then Ireland would have taken a much longer time to rebel. The lack of mercy from the British military provoked Ireland's sense of pride and reinforced the rebels' arguments.This is the true reason why the Easter Rising sped up Ireland's want for independence. If the Easter Rising had'nt occured, Ireland would still probably be under Britain's rule.
