Dbx encoded vinyls and digital recording

In the 70s I was amazed to hear dbx encoded vinyls. I thought at the time that in the dbx encoding process no A/D conversion was involved.
I am going back to some vinyls and I just received a "dbx recording technology showcase series volume 2" vinyl.
On the writeup it says the master tape on those days had only 70dB dynamic range and live performance had 90 dB dynamic range. So they used digital tape recording and produced dbx vinyls that achieved 90 dB dynamic range.
My question: can we say that dbx vinyls are "pure" analogue?
Would anyone join in the Analogue/Digital Superior/inferior debate?

Regards

William
