42 " cut cub cadet. Just replaced starter motor. battery charged up turned key no sound nothing. Wires on left side of tractor started to smoke? Will not start.

Check to see if your positive and negative terminals aren't crossed. I fried a John Deeres' wiring that way. Yours sounds similar. Beyond that, make sure you have wired the starter correctly. You're shorting out somewhere.
