From praisen, preisen from praisier, preisier "to value, prize" from from pretium "price, worth, reward". See prize. Replaced native lofen, loven "to praise" (from lofian, cf and lof "praise"), herien "to praise, glorify, celebrate" (from herian), rosen "to praise, glorify" (from hrōsa).
