History

The municipality of Øre was established on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt

). On 1 September 1882, a part of the municipality of Fredø (population: 40) was transferred to Øre. On 1 September 1893, the northern part of Øre (population: 226), was used to create the new municipality of Gjemnes
