A famous place in Åkerby is Åkerby Vägskäl, where the first people gathered before emigrating to America in the 19 century. Wilhelm Moberg wrote about this in his book utvandrarna. It was briefly mentioned in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson.
