History
The first edition of the publication was released by the American Federation of Arts in 1940 under the title A Biographical Dictionary of Contemporary American Artists. It contained a Preface, Abbreviations, Biographies, Obituaries, and a Classified Geographical Index. Who's Who in American Art was published for many years by R.R. Bowker Publishing up to and including the 20th edition. It has since been published by Marquis Who's WhoMarquis Who's Who
