He led the Boston Globes coverage of the Roman Catholic clergy sexual abuse scandal, for which the newspaper won the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service. Robinson was also a Pulitzer Prize finalist in Investigative Reporting in 2007.

He was assistant managing editor from 1993 to 1996. He was the paper's roving national and foreign correspondent, from 1997 to 1998. He covered four presidential elections, was the Globe's White House correspondent and was the newspaper's Middle East Bureau Chief during the first Persian Gulf War in 1991.

Robinson teaches journalism at Northeastern University. He has been a journalism fellow at Stanford University
