Atala Thérèse Annette Wartel, née Adrien, (born Paris, 2 July 1814, died Paris 6 November 1865) was a French pianist, music educator, composer and critic.

Biography

Thérèse Wartel was the daughter of a violinist at the Grand Opera

, and leader of the Paris Conservatoire orchestra. She studied music at the Conservatoire, became an accompanist, and from 1831-38 was a professor at the Conservatoire. She was the first female soloist ever admitted at the Orchestre de la Société des Concerts du Conservatoire
