 novelist and freelance writer. She is the author of several short stories and the screenplay for Convention Girls, a film produced in 1978. She has composed one novel titled Elbowing the Seducer which was published in 1984. Over the course of her career, Gertler has aspired to be known as a writer and just as a "woman writer."
