Overview

St. Joseph’s Academy was was formally opened and blessed on March 1, 1934 by Rev. Fr. Antanasius, in the presence of a large number of people from Dehradun and Mussoorie. Rev Bro. A.M. Keogh was the first principal of SJA.
1959 was a landmark in the history of the Academy, when in March, the school celebrated its 25th anniversary. When SJA first opened its doors in 1934 the roll-call was just twenty one; in 1959, over a thousand students were attending it. A new building- the South Block – was also built. The grain of mustard had indeed grown into a great tree.
By the 80’s, St. Joseph’s was a well-established institution. The decade was to remember those great people who helped shape SJA, to rejoice for its accomplishments and renew old and forgotten ties.
Over the past decade or so, SJA has progressed from strength to strength. The school now has a strength of about a hundred times the number of students there were at the end of 1934.
In 2004, St. Josephs completed 70 glorious years. To commemorate this occasion the well-known play ‘Peter Pan’ was staged.
The school is located in the heart of the city of Dehra Dun on the main thoroughfare Rajpur Road.
The Cultural Week was organized on the 75th anniversary (Year 2009) of the School which was a great success, since then the cultural week is annually organized & this time (Year 2011) it will be held 10th august onwards.
Bro.A.J. George re-started this tradition (of the cultural week) to further encourage and nurture the talents of the students. A special Talent Hunt is organized for students to expose their individual talents
