, the British colonial secretary, to discuss with Arabs and Jews to determine the future of the region. The meeting ended without result on 17 March 1939. From the Jewish side, higher immigration rates, additional Jewish settlements and the establishment of a legal defense forces were sought. The Arabs rejected the Balfour Declaration and called to stop Jewish immigration and forbid the purchase of land by Jews.
