Life

He was born at Cill na Marta, West Cork

. He played hurling and football for Macroom

 and won a Cork Senior Football Championship medal in 1931. He played for the Cork senior football team and Munster in the Railway Cup.

In 1935 he moved to Dublin as a teacher, where he played with the Clann na Gael Club, winning a Dublin Senior Football Championship medal in 1936.

He was Secretary-General of the GAA from 1964 to 1979. After his retirement he continued to work for the GAA in a fund-raising role.

As a ballad-singer he had his own radio program on Radio Éireann in the 1950s and toured America four times.
