The mountainous ecosystem extends from the municipality of Saladoblanco towards the northeast covering the municipalities of La Argentina, Oporapa, Tarqui, Pital, La Plata and ending at the municipality of El Agrado. The highest mountain peaks can reach up to 2600 m over sea level.
