Santiago Antúnez de Mayolo was born on January 10, 1887 in the country estate of Vista Bella, province of Aija, Peru
, department of Ancash.
His secondary education was realized in the convent of San Agustín of Huaraz and in the school Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe in Lima.
Later, in the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, he received the Golden medal graduating with a degree in Mathematical Sciences in the year 1906. He specialized in the Institute Electrotécnico of the University of Grenoble in France.
In the Third Pan-American Scientific Congress held in Lima, he presented "Hypothesis about the Constitution of Matter" this theory proposed the existence of a "neutral element" in the atom. Eight years later Englishman James Chadwick
confirmed Antúnez de Mayolo's theory.
