The game which features Adventure, action and strategy gameplay elements, is set during a time when the city of Carthage has been overthrown by Rome, its arch rival.

A message must be delivered to Matho, the leader of the main force laying siege, from Salammbo, the daughter of commander and the Carthaginian forces. Salammbo asks for your help; you assume the role of Spendius, a favoured slave and companion of Matho. During the game, you assume the role of a fugitive, then a spy, a soothsayer and finally a General.
