Eleven races were held. Points were assigned based on the finishing position in each race (1 for first, 2 for second, etc.). If a sailor was disqualified or did not complete the race, 36 points were assigned for that race (one more than the number of sailors in the race). The points were totaled from the best 9 results of the first 10 races, with lower totals being better. The top 10 athletes advanced to the medal race, where points counted double (2 for first, 4 for second, etc.). The athlete with the lowest total score won.
