Encyclopedia
RTÉjr is a children's channel operated by Ireland's national broadcaster RTÉ Television
, which targets a demographic between 2 – 6 years of age. The channel launched as part of Saorview
's line-up on May 26, 2011. The channel broadcasts daily between 06:00 to 19:00, sharing broadcasting space with RTÉ One +1
. The channel broadcasts without advertising required by broadcasting laws.
RTÉjr airs as a programming block on RTÉ Two
since September 20, 2010. RTÉjr began broadcasting on 27 May 2011 at 11:00.
It's flagship programme is hosted by Emma O'Driscoll
and her puppet friend in Ógie. The channel operates alongside its sister strand TRTÉ
. Both strands also appear on RTE digital radio station RTÉ Junior
.
. The channel will continue to target its current demographic. The only change to the broadcasting of the service from its sister channel RTE Two
, is that the channel will air without advertising as requested by broadcasting legislation which is unique amongst Irish channels, however RTÉ since the mid-1990s had already implement a policy of no advertising during programming aimed at children under 6 years.
It's been initially proposed that the channel will follow the following structure: the channel will be offered as simulcast of RTÉjr from RTÉ Two
between 09:00 and 12:00 and it will then repeat that same block of programming from 12:00 to 19:00 when RTÉ One +1
begins broadcasting, the second phase of development for the channel will see it airing at the weekend and with a unique schedule. This is now subject to change.
RTÉjr will lose its block of programming on RTÉ Two as Analogue Switch Off (ASO) occurs on 24 October 2012.
. The series is called Punky
. The show is broadcast broadcast daily at 10:25 and 13:45. It started on Tuesday, 3 May 2011. The show has been designed by award winning Irish animation company Monster Animation and Design.
