Pravda (Law & Order: Criminal Intent episode)
Encyclopedia
Pravda is a third season episode of the television series Law & Order: Criminal Intent
. It takes its title from the Soviet-era Russian daily newspaper, Pravda
(Russian: Правда, "Truth").
gets an interim partner, G. Lynn Bishop
, when Eames
goes on maternity leave and focuses his investigation on the murder of a female reporter found slain in the apartment of a fellow correspondent.
During the investigation, Goren finds that the victim had a romantic relationship with the writer, but he questions the out-of-town alibi of the man when he fails to file expense accounts. When he looks deeper into the case, he discovers that the reporter fabricated comments, concocted scenes, and lifted material from other newspapers and wire services, in order to create the impression he had been somewhere or seen someone.
In addition, Goren learns that the reporter's father is a brilliant literature professor who has pushed his son into increasingly difficult investigative reporting. He also discovers the victim may have been romantically involved with her editor and could also have been helping plagiarize and invent stories for the newspaper. But he wonders why the editor appears to be covering for his star reporter, who seems to have achieved acclaim for filing false stories.
Finally, Goren uncovers evidence that could well be enough reason to silence the victim, until he finds a looming psychological component that is crucial to putting a bulletproof case together.
