 as a solo project for Diesel Sam, who was a founding member of the noise band Slave Cylinder along with bandmate Remy Brecht. Previously, the group had been using their ventures into the digital hardcore sound as encores for their live performances, with Diesel screaming improvised rants over the music. After relocating to Las Vegas in 2001, Diesel began to refine these pieces into finished songs. Live shows during this period include a performance at the Avant Garden festival and a set at punk venue The Cooler Lounge.

After moving to New Hampshire in 2003, the band recorded a four-song demo and sent it to labels. Atari Teenage Riot
