Out of the Tunnel's Mouth
Encyclopedia
Out of the Tunnel's Mouth is an album by musician Steve Hackett
. It is his first album on his new vanity label
Wolfwork after leaving his previous label Camino. It is also his first prog
release since 2006's Wild Orchids
. The album was announced on 30 October 2009 for sale via his website and live shows.
In April 2010, InsideOut Music
released a 2-CD Special Edition with the original album as CD 1 and CD 2 containing 5 live tracks and a new studio track. The live tracks were recorded live in Italy in March 2009. Interestingly, this album provides a live version of the Firth of Fifth
, complete with Roger King playing the original piano intro Hackett's ex-Genesis
mate, Tony Banks
performed on record, but not live - a nice touch for fans.
This album shows Hackett taking an introspective look at life. It's dark sounds perhaps influenced by his divorce in 2008 to Brazilian artist Kim Poor. Nonetheless, he shows influences from Turkey in the song "Last Train to Istanbul". Chris Squire
makes appearences on both "Fire on the Moon" as well as "Nomads". Nick Beggs
provides bass and Chapman Stick
for the remaining songs. An additional guest on this album is founding Genesis
guitarist Anthony Phillips
on "Emerald and Ash" plus "Sleepers".
