History

Nexø was founded in 1346, expanding to its current size in the 18th century, with quarries and an expanded harbour. Between 1900 and 1968, Nexø was connected with Rønne, the largest town on Bornholm, by a railway track. The old station building is still preserved in the latter, whilst Nexø is now host to a railway museum. The town was the site of the municipal council of Nexø Municipality, which covered an area of 104 km², with a total population of 8,558. This former municipality is now included in the Bornholm Municipality.

Dueodde

The largest beach on Bornholm is located south of Nexø, in the southeastern corner of Bornholm. It extends from Snogebæk on the outskirts of Nexø on the eastern coast to several kilometers west of the promontory. A tourist magnet, it is considered the best beach in Denmark.
