Caylee's body, her mouth duct-taped and her body placed in a plastic garbage bag, was found five months later in a wooded area a half mile from the Orlando, Florida, home of Casey's parents, George and Cindy Anthony. Mommy's Little Girl was the first book released about the Anthony case.

Then-22-year-old Casey Anthony, Caylee's mother, who was later indicted for first-degree murder in her daughter's death, faced a capital murder charge in her trial, which began May 9, 2011, with the jury selection. On the eve of jury selection, author Fanning appeared as a commentator on TruTV's "InSession." After the jury acquitted Anthony in July 2011, Fanning told My San Antonio that she was "stunned" by the "not guilty" verdict.
