Biography

Born in 1971, Shafi’i has been making documentary films in and outside of Afghanistan for the last 8 years. He completed his education at Baagh Ferdaws Islamic Film making Center in 1999 in Iran, and additionally attended a film production course in the Netherlands.
Coming back to Afghanistan after 20 years of exile, it is five years he has been living in Kabul, where he launched the Afghanistan Cinema Club BASA Film

. He also worked as a senior adviser for the Radio Television of Afghanistan.
He has made about 30 films; some of them received international film awards from different countries.Up to the parliament (2005) , Drought in Hazarajat (2003), Pamir Territory (2003), and End of the Earth (2001) is the filmmaker’s most renowned works.

• Making of a thirty minutes documentary its name is Drought in Hazarajat. Showed to Kish International film festival /2004 and won the golden plaque also this film showed to FICC filmfestival in Italy/2005

Pamir territory (A group of film makers intend to travel to the farthest region of Afghanistan "Wakhan district of Badakhshan province" on the pretext of election. They pass from Faiz Abad and Eshkashem paths and as for as reaching to Wakhan take film from the people lives in the elections day. In spite of an unprecedented snow in the Election Day, people participate in election days. The elections take place in a complete security and the film maker group return on their feet. Pamir Territory won best non fiction film from Kazan international film festival (Golden Minbar) in 2006 and participial in Berlin Asia Pacific film festival in 2006
