MU.LAB
Encyclopedia
MU.LAB is a digital audio workstation
(DAW) for Mac OS X
and Windows
developed by MUTOOLS. It is available in three flavors: a free version, which is restricted to four tracks, and XT and UL versions which have fewer restrictions. However, because parts on a track can be assigned racks (i.e., instruments) individually and can overlap, this restriction to four tracks in the free version still allows creating music with more than four concurrent voices.
MU.LAB uses a pattern-based approach to sequencing. VST plugins are supported and it comes with built-in synthesizers such as MuSynth and the multi-sampler MultiSampla.
The program can be run directly from a USB memory stick. MU.LAB can also serve as a ReWire
master and it can be run on Linux
using the Wine
Windows emulator, although this is not officially supported at this point.
