Premios MTV Latinoamérica (previously known as MTV Video Music Awards Latinoamérica or VMALA's) is the Latin American version of the Video Music Awards.
Before MTV established a special event for the Latin
artists, the awards (a Moonman) were given out during the MTV VMA
's live broadcast in a category called "Video de la Gente" ("People's Video"). The first award was given out in 1994
, then in 1998
it was divided into north and south, and in 2001
the south was divided into southwest and southeast.
