This is a list of episodes of the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
series. Extreme Makeover: Home Edition started on December 3, 2003, and currently has over 140 episodes spanning 7 seasons, and 9 special episodes.
During season 1 the families got a makeover to their current home where everything was ripped out and rebuilt with the exception of the finale, where the entire house was rebuilt.
Starting in the second season the house was ripped down and completely rebuilt from scratch unless the house was of historical value and it was better to renovate it. The second season started to have episodes broadcast with "How do They do That?" segments, which showed more behind the scenes of what happened during the episode.
The third season saw the show expand and quite often the team would take on more than one project of the house for the family that were getting the extreme makeover.
During season 4 and 5, the show then took on a theme of helping one deserving family from each of the 50 states in America So season 4 and 5 where effectively one season. Season 4 also saw the first major injury during the show, where carpenter Ed Sanders nearly severed the thumb of his left hand in episode 13 while rebuilding a house in Columbus, Ohio for the Thomas family. The show format also changed from showing the renovation during the episode to showing a little of it but more focusing on the family and how they took to their new home.
Season 6 took on different theme again, this time helping heroes. 25 heroes that have done great things for their community were given a new house.
The seventh season is about volunteers who help their community and friends and families. Season 7 started on September 27, 2009.
The eighth season premiered on September 26, 2010, and had a few changes including the shows logo. The bus also has the new logo on it. The design team surprises the family at a random location in their hometown rather than in front of their house.
