Ladislav Zívr was an important Czech
sculptor of the 20th century.
Zívr was born in Nová Paka
and died in Ždírec u Staré Paky (both then Austria–Hungary, now Czech Republic
).
Because of a family tradition, he attended a ceramist school and clay remained his preferred material, although he used other techniques, such as assemblage or combination of gypsum with natural materials. His works were inspired mostly by cubism
and surrealism
.
He then attended art school VŠUP, where he was meeting with the avantgarde of that time. He became member of Skupina 42 art group, where he was the only sculptor.
