. It opened in 1983, as a television studio complex, called East Midlands Television Centre from 1983 till 1994 and Carlton Studios from 1994 till 2005.

East Midlands Television Centre (1983-1994)

 began operation in the complex in 1983 but was officially opened by H.R.H Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip in 1984. It was designed to be spacious and provide the facility to extend if so required - and also provide adequate floor-space for the major production work that was once carried out at Elstree, as well as provide extra small presentation studios, plus a new permanent base for Central News – East.

Carlton Studios (1994-2005)

 was taken over by Carlton Television

, and the studios were renamed the Carlton Studios.

From 1996, a section of the prop store was converted to make way for the programme library, which had recently moved from over from Birmingham. This area eventually took up a total of three floors - one section dedicated to News material and the two remaining spaces allocated to network programme material. By 2000, yet more alterations at the studios were made to accommodate what was to be the final major production for the studios, the revived version of soap opera Crossroads, which ran from 2001 till 2003. The show utilized the exterior of the Carlton Studios, by having a purpose built canopy constructed, a pond and also extra landscaping which doubled as motel exteriors. By 2003, all production work at the studios was dwindling as the studios went undergoing major changes.

In 2004, the owners of Carlton Television, Carlton Communications, merged with Granada plc, to form ITV plc. Also in 2004, ITV plc sold the studios to the University of Nottingham

, but the deal completed in 2005.

King's Meadow Campus (2005-)

The complex was renamed King's Meadow Campus in 2005, and now houses a Café (where the Sports & Social Club was). The original staff canteen and most of the floor-space in the studios has been converted to office and lecture space.

In 2007, the campus opened a fitness centre called King's Meadow Campus Fitness Centre.
