Kämmerling is one of the editors of the journal "Üben und Musizieren" (Practice and Music-Making) and the founder and longterm president of the German association of the European Piano Teachers Association. He has been a member of the German Academic Exchange Service

Kämmerling received the prize Niedersächsischer Staatspreis of Lower Saxony in 1985. Since 1999 he is an Officer of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
