. Dr. Adler's primary area of academic interest is the development of non-invasive computer controlled tools for neurosurgery. Dr. Adler is a pioneer in the field of radiosurgery and the inventor of the CyberKnife Radiosurgical System. By virtue of such he is widely acknowledged as the father of the rapidly emerging field of image-guided irradiation. In the fields of surgery, medical imaging and therapeutic radiation, Dr. Adler holds nine United States patents and has authored more than 180 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters.

In 2009, Dr. Adler founded peerEmed.com, a web based peer-reviewed medical journal that combines attributes of traditional expert review and social networks with the objective of fairly compensating reviewers and authors. peerEmed.com's business model is designed to eliminate the conflicts of interest and inefficiencies inherent in the business model of traditional print based peer reviewed medical journals.
