In 1947 he began, together with J.Fugarolas i Arquer —and from 1959 to 1980 alone—, the Great Theatre of Liceu enterprise, since Joan Mestres i Calvet resigned.
During the time that he was in this position, he fostered the theatre with the creation of an orchestra (1958) and a ballet company (1966). He also enlarged the duration and repertoire of the ballet and opera seasons. He hired first-rate soloist and companies. He published several articles about music matters. In 1955 he arranged for the Bayreuth festival to visit Barcelona. In 1959 he received the Spanish Premio Nacional de Teatro (National Theatre Prize).
