James S. "Jim" Bubar is a Democratic
candidate for US (Shadow) Representative from the District of Columbia (Washington, DC) to the United States Congress
.
The office was created to facilitate the district becoming a state like Hawaii and Alaska before, and to advocate for full Congressional voting rights for residents of the District of Columbia who have the obligations of other US citizens and yet have no voting representative in Congress.
As Co-Chair of the Bar’s DC Affairs Section, he advocated voting rights on the Hill, supporting the “No Taxation Without Representation Bill” by Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton
(D-DC) and the new “DC Fair and Equal House Voting Rights Act.”
As Alternate National Committeeman, he helped draft resolutions of the Democratic National Committee
and District of Columbia Democratic State Committee for full voting rights.
As a John F. Kerry delegate, he advocated voting rights at the Democratic National Convention
in Boston.
He also volunteers as Babe Ruth Baseball Commissioner, working to provide youth with a positive experience – from league-organized games, to proper fields, to bringing over 10,000 youth to the Nationals so they are first to benefit from baseball’s return.
He lives in Chevy Chase, DC, and has two children, Joe and Raquel. Both he and his wife are attorneys.
He is a graduate of the University of California Santa Cruz and Hastings College of the Law.
