The school was established in 2004. The mission of Irma Lerma Rangel Young Women's Leadership School is to nurture young women in leadership roles in a global society, through a community dedicated to rigorous educational and cultural experiences. To ensure that students graduate from college, we will prepare young women to succeed in all fields, particularly: math, science, technology, leadership, and wellness.
The Irma L. Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School is the First All-Girls Public Magnet School in Texas. Originally housed in the historic Stephen J. Hay Building, located at 3801 Herschel Ave, in the city's Oak Lawn district, it opened its doors to students on August 16, 2004 under the leadership of Principal Vivian Taylor-Samudio, with 125 girls.
In the 2005-2006 school year the school expanded to receive 9th grade students. During the 2006-2007 school year, it has expanded to receive 6th & 10th grade students. The school finally reached grades 6 through 12 during the 2008-2009 school year, graduating its first class in the 2008-2009 academic school year.
The school is named after the Honorable Irma Lerma Rangel who was the first Mexican-American woman elected to the Texas House of Representatives, and the first woman elected as Chair of the Mexican-American Legislative Caucus.

Received grant from the Dallas Museum of Art for the 6th grade Talented and Gifted class for 2008-2009 school year.
Received grant from Citibank for Introduction to Business class for 7th and 8th graders. The current school president is Alexandra Vazquez
This ladies had won the "Spress your self contest" on 2010-2011 year. For this year they will have the trophy in there school.
Extracurricular activities: Lacrosse, Academic Decathlon, Volleyball, and Basketball

Beginning
Through grants, the Foundation for the Education of Young Women (supports programs to enhance the education experience at Irma Rangel to support three core values: College Preparation, Responsible Leadership and Wellness Life Skills.The Irma L.
