IADMS enhances the health, well-being, training, and performance of dancers by cultivating educational, medical, and scientific excellence.


As of 2010, it had over 900 members in 35 countries.

The association holds annual conferences and publishes a quarterly peer-reviewed scientific journal, Journal of Dance Medicine & Science (indexed in MEDLINE) and The IADMS Bulletin for Teachers.

The association provides an International Performing Arts Medicine Calendar (IPAMC) which lists upcoming performing arts medicine conferences, including those devoted to music medicine, dance medicine, or both.
