History

The Inter-Mennonite Children's Choir was proposed in 1966 under the leadership of Dr. Helen Martens. In the fall of 1967 the choir began its first season. The choir consisted of children age 7-16. The choir was originally sponsored by the Conrad Grebel Women's Association and utilized practice space provided by the college. The administrative responsibilities of the choir fell on a sub-committee of the Conrad Grebel Women's Association that dealt specifically with the choir. Over time choir administration shifted to a more independent executive community but still remained affiliated with the college. The choir hosted live performances at the college, as well as the churches and venues of Kitchener-Waterloo.

Notable events

The choir also undertook international tours to Europe and the United States. The group has recorded several performances and produced multiple albums such as: Sing For Joy (1994), Joyful Celebration (2007), We are the children (2002), Four Choirs at Christmas (2003), and Be Joyful (1979). The choir has participated in many competitions and festivals, receiving multiple awards from institutions such as the Kiwanis Music Festival Association and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. In their 1972-1973 season, the choir performed personally for Prime Minister Trudeau and the Governor General Roland Michener.
