. After graduation from Maharajas College in Trivandrum, he went to London
, and during 1901-06 he studied Physics
in the Imperial College of Science and Technology, University of London
. He became an Associate of the Royal School of Mines
in 1906. He was the State Geologist of Travancore
State from 1906–1921, and from 1921 to 1931 he was the Director of Industries. He made a mark as an outstanding geologist.
He was also a well-known writer in English, Malayalam and Sanskrit
. He was the second recipient of the Kerala Sahitya Academy Award (instituted in 1955), which he was conferred in 1956 for his work 'Paananeeya Pradyoditham'. The Academy also has an Endowment Award in his name. His other works include the Sanskrit
poem 'Kristhusahasranamam' (The Thousand Names of Christ).
