console. It is the first title in the Harvest Moon series originally developed for the Wii and is described by the developer's Japanese Web site as a "heart warming life simulation".

Story

You have moved to an island town that was once enchanted. However, it has been years since the mystical Mother Tree has shown any signs of life and the Harvest Goddess has vanished. The island has lost its connection with nature and its inhabitants don't know what to do. Grow various crops and herbs, tend to and befriend animals, form friendships and raise a family to help save the island (by building magical rainbows to nurture the Mother Tree)!

Gameplay

Interact with your surroundings to discover more secrets of the island and improve your land.

Using tools more often around the farm, mine, and rivers and oceans, causes your character to become more proficient with them. This allows you, for example, to till more plots of land with one hit, water multiple plots at once, cast to catch rarer fish, or strike a rock or tree with more strength. Depending on how much skill you have, working on your garden or livestock can take the better part of a day. This is where being able to do more with less effort has an advantage. Pressing the 'A' button on either the WiiMote or Classic Controller will cause the player to use whatever they are holding, and it will use less stamina if your skill level is high and your tools are strong.

There are new animals such as ostriches that players can obtain. There are also pets the player can "adopt", located at various places throughout the island. This is done by getting a sufficient amount of hearts from them, and then choosing to adopt them. However, players may only have a limited number of adopted pets on their farm at one time, so choices must be made wisely.

Getting Married

Each gender of main character has 8 marriage candidates available. To get married, you must raise the chosen person's heart level to 8 hearts. This is most easily done by going on dates, giving gifts or just talking to the person. Marriage is optional, but if you choose to do so, you'll have to find the blue feather. The blue feather has always been a symbol of happiness. You must find a blue feather to propose. A couple days after your love gets 8 hearts, you'll see a blue bird flying towards Caramel Falls. Follow it and you will get the feather.

You can choose whether you want to get married very soon, or you can choose a later date. When the day finally comes, you will be married in the town's church. Eventually after you are married, you or your wife will have a child in the town clinic. The husband/you will have to wait in the waiting room. Afterward, the husband/you will present the wife/you with your new son or daughter. When the child becomes a toddler, you will be able to play with your child. There will be special events in the child's life such as "First Steps", "Talking", "Reaching Teenager", and "Growing Up." After you have made the journey rucksack, you get to start the game over as your son or daughter.

The benefit of marriage is your spouse will make you lunch every day. Some spouses will also give you a pet name.

Adopting Pets

The various islands accessible throughout the game are home to many wild animals that can be obtained as pets with some hard work on your part. This is done by gaining their trust through conversation and gifts. The daily television show 'Kingdom of Wildlife' can give you more information about various potential pets, including what gifts they enjoy.

Once you've raised said animal's affection level to four hearts, it will in turn present YOU with a gift. At six hearts, you will be given the option to adopt it. Choose carefully - once you adopt it, it will be yours forever, but if you decline the adoption offer, you will never be given the opportunity again. You can adopt one pet per level of your house.

Should you choose to adopt the pet at six hearts, you will name it and it will move into your home with you (and possibly your spouse and child). Once the pet is yours, you can talk to it and take it for a walk to bond with him or her. Beware - they are extremely picky and will get annoyed easily. It's difficult to make them happy again. To keep them content, it's recommended not to walk them at all.

The Farm

When you first start playing, you will have a choice of three plots of land: hilltop, town, and seaside. The soil quality difference between the properties is less significant than in Magical Melody.

Hilltop Plot
Advantages - Close to Maple Lake District, Caramel Falls, and Ganache Mine District; and more crop squares than Town Plot
Disadvantages - Less crop squares than Seaside Plot

Town Plot
Advantages - Close to Waffle Town
Disadvantages - Least amount of crop squares

Seaside Plot
Advantages - Most amount of crop squares; close to the Beach and Mt. Gelato
Disadvantages - Worst soil quality.
Mountain Plot (available as an additional plot only)
