The school is in the south of the town, on the western side of the A1065
, next to the leisure centre. A building project to expand the school and integrate the sixth form on the same site was completed in July 2009.
In 2009 the school considered becoming a Foundation School, but due to lack of support for the proposal within the key stakeholder groups and surrounding community, the Governors decided not to proceed with the proposed change.

As of 2009 the school began running an enrichment programme where students participate in an activity or learning opportunity outside the standard taught curriculum.
