Plot

The game opens in the year 2010 B.C. in what would become New York City. A large group of people are attending the funeral of a god named Dumazu the Destroyer. It is said that upon his death an Artifact of unimaginable power known as the relic of Nilhe was broken up and it's believed that if it were to be reunited, it would revive the god. We fast forward to 1954 one piece of the artifact has been found by a group of City Maintenance workers who turn it over to the local museum. In 2011, Ismael Mcenthol is admitted to the Parkview mental hospital for suffering Bizarre delusions and horrifying hallucinations of Dumazu. More importantly, he is the last remaining member of the cult of Dumazu. A new patient is admitted, the Semiantogonist of the second movie Jonosz Poha, an encounter with Ismael caused him to go insane and steal the artifact shard. Jonosz is then admitted to the hospital in order to give Ismael the Shard, sadly Ismael having no use for Jonosz abandons him in the hospital.

A few Weeks later, an uncontrolled spike in paranormal activity is on the rise and if something isn't done soon they'll be overwhelmed. Since the Ghostbusters' age is starting to catch up with them, they put out an ad for a new team of Ghostbusters. After three weeks, they successfully assemble a new team using their increased revenue and send them on a training mission at The Sedgewick Hotel. The new team track the ghost of the hotel's former head chef, LeBlog. After capturing LeBlog the rest of the ghosts are chased out and according to Gabriel's and Egon's calculations, they head Northeast, directly to the Parkview Mental hospital.

At Parkview, they meet Dr. Michael Tesmon. Dr. Tesmon states that the madness started when a new patient, Jonosz, arrived at the hospital. At first, Jonosz seemed relatively normal but within hours he began screaming that the end was near and that "He's Coming". The man was apparently possessed, and after a search of his belongings, a strange item was found, the artifact shard. At that moment the hospital was flooded with ghosts. The Ghostbusters took the artifact for analysis and cleared the ghosts from the Hospital. After defeating a physco-kenectic construct of electro-shock equipment controlled by a possessed doctor, the team found themselves seriously overwhelmed and are forced to flee into the sewers.

In the sewers the team discovers that while there's not as many ghosts as there are on the surface there are still enough to give them a problem, worse yet the sewers are flooded with "Mood Slime" which is coming alive and attacking them. Eventually they find the largest manifestation of the Mood Slime yet a giant Golem Made of Mood Slime, after defeating the golem they call their driver, Geoff, to pick them up and leave the sewers. Unfortunately the full force of the ghosts from the hospital is on the loose on the surface.

From the back of the Ecto 4WD (a new model of Ecto 1 exclusive to the game with a added compartment on top for the team to fire from) the team blast their way through hoards of ghosts unfortunately the Ecto 4WD is in disrepair after a night of fighting and speeding through traffic, and the artifact's powers turns a subway train into a giant Monster (dubbed the Subway Smasher) and creates a moat full of bubling lava around the team. Exploring the "Corpse" of the Subway Smasher they discover that the Smasher was brought to life with another shard of the artifact.

After returning to the Ecto 4WD, which is stuck in a crevase, Geoff informs them of instructions from Headquarters telling them to return to the Firehouse to talk to Jonosz Poha. With the Ecto 4WD in disrepair they decide to take a shortcut through the Grave yard, where they encounter zombies (or snobies AKA snot Zombies) and gargoyle statues brought to life. During the trek through the Graveyard the team discovers that there is some kind of signal linking together the Gargoyles and controlling them, they trace it back to what appears to be some sort of crop circle
Crop circle

Crop circles are also referred to as crop formations, because they are not always circular in shape. While the exact date crop circles began to appear is unknown, the documented...

at the center of the Graveyard guarded by a larger Gargoyle called a grotesque.

At the HQ Jonosz explains how he was tricked into giving the Artifact shard to Ismael, Egon and Gabriel theorizes that the shards are drawn to one-another like magnets, they can use that to locate the remaining pieces, based on the substantial paranormal activity at the Sedgewick they calculate that to be the location of the next artifact shard. Unfortuanately pyromaniacal ghosts, called Nocnitse, has set the hotel on fire, the team confront the leader of the Nocnitse in the lobby and capture it retrieving the next artifact shard in the process.

Unfortunately they're ambushed on the way back to HQ by Gargoyles and other ghosts after the artifact shards they have in their possession, and bubbling Mood slime is coming through the sewers and cracking the roads, creating even more chaos. Just when they nearly reach HQ the street collapses stranding the team and the Ecto 4WD in the sewers. Luckily they believe being underground will denten the signal the artifacts are producing thus lowering the amount of ghosts coming after them.

Unfortunately while in the sewers they come across what can be best described as giant ghost spiders, and when they reach the middle of the nest they run into the Huge Spider, the leader and queen of the nest. They eventually trap the queen and escape the sewers, unfortunately while fleeing from the ghosts in the sewers they run directly into the Cemetery again where supernatural levels are spiking through the roof.

The high Concentration of Supernatural activity is bringing to life the statues in the cemetery, including a giant tomb effigy whom brings to life smaller statues to assist it, in the process discovering it was powered by a artifact shard. Later at HQ they bring back the four shards and much to their horror the shards re-assemble themselves, they go back to Parkview to talk to Ismael about the artifact and hope to find a way to destroy it.

Unfortunately when they get their they re-fight all the previous bosses in the game in rapid succession (all except for the Subway Smasher) afterwards they discover much to their horror that Dr. Tesmon is Ismael Mcenthol, the Cultist whom they came to see, who has manipulated the team into collecting the four pieces of the Artifact of Nilhe for him, worst yet they have twice now defeated the ghosts that were trying to prevent the reassembling of the Artifact. Using the Artifact Ismael completes a ritual that revives Dumazu with himself as a host, finally he sucks in himself and the team of Ghostbusters into the ghost World. There the Ghostbusters successfully defeat both Ismael and Dumazu thus ending the madness.

Two Days after the final showdown Both teams of Ghostbusters are celebrating the successful defeat of Dumazu when Janosz comes in to apologize for his actions and with that the end of the game has arrived.
