, 3 December 1830 and died in San Salvador, 22 June 1890. His parents were Mr. José Eustachian Menéndez and Mrs Gabriela Valdivieso, landowners of with an economic and independent position. In 1858, General Menéndez had an arranged marriage with Mrs Bonifacia Salazar. At the age of 41, he took an active role on 1871 in the revolution that ousted Dr. Francisco Dueñas, the mayor of Ahuachapán. At the age of 55 General Menéndez was named Provisional President of El Salvador 22 June 1885, receiving the supreme power of Mr. José Rosales.
