Francis Joseph O'Finan, Bishop of Killala

O'Finan was appointed to the see in 1835. However, he faced strong local opposition from supporters of the previous bishop, John McHale
. These were members of the lower clergy favored by McHale and were angered that one of their members had not succeeded McHale. Their campaign succeeded in 1847 with the overthrow of O'Finan.
