She graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles
in 2004 with a Master of Fine Arts
degree, and teaches television drama writing at its film school. She and three other black women in the entertainment industry created the Four Sisters Scholarship in Screenwriting, Directing, and Animation to help support students working on productions related to portraying their race's experiences. She is currently a doctoral student in the school's Cinema and Media Studies program.
