It adds more flavour to this achievement when we realise that Kalady is the Birth Place of Sri Shankaracharya, who preached " Adwaitha " Doctrines of Hindu Community in India. The secular values of the IUML has been underlined by this initiative of ET Mohammed Basheer as the Education Minister of the state of Kerala.

He put an end to unhealthy competition by implementing the grading system up to higher secondary school level. He introduced computer education at school level and provided opportunities and facilities for the physically handicapped students and orphans. Thirty-six unaided special schools were converted to aided schools. The national curriculum framework appreciated this as a benchmark reform in that sector.

The contributions of E .T. Mohammed Basheer in the Kerala assembly are widely appreciated. He represented various constituencies in Kerala Legislative Assembly from 1984 till 2006. His portfolio as the education minister of Kerala (twice, during 1991-96 and 2004-06) wrote unbelievable chapters of educational reform in the state. Apart from his administrative capacities, he spear-headed many philanthropic activities. His vision and passion to serve society is evident in his committed leadership for CH centre Trivandrum to help the cancer patients from all parts of Kerala and from neighbouring states.
