Dønnes was a former municipality in Nordland
County, Norway.
Dønnes was part of the Helgeland
traditional region. Dønnes was designated to be a municipality by a split from Nesna
on July 1, 1888. At that time Dønnes had a population of 1,348. On 1 January 1962 the island Tomma with 80 inhabitants was reunited with Nesna. The rest of Dønnes, with 1,348 inhabitants, was merged with Nordvik
and the island Løkta in Nesna
to create the new municipality Dønna
.
Dønnes church (Dønnes kirke) was probably built at the request of Paul Vågaskalm who was governor of Alstahaug
. It was built on the site of an older church sometime between 1200 and 1300. The characteristic onion dome was added in 1866. The church organ, built by Paul Christian Brantzeg, was installed in 1866.
