There are two distinct permutations of this album: The 1995 single-disc, 15 track (18 in France), European release and the 1997 2-disc, 33 track US release. Both contained a selection of hits and album tracks dating from 1979-1988 (1979-1993 on the US version) and several previously unreleased studio tracks.

Additionally, the US 2-disc version gained the subheading The Mercury Years and was made available with an alternative cover, that omitted the nude model.
