The 2008 U.S. Olympic Team alternate ended with an amateur record of 68-12. O'Connor a 4-time New England Golden Gloves champion, won the 2008 national golden gloves at light welterweight. Danny's most notable victory as an amateur was a dominating win 23-3, against the eventual 2008 Olympic Gold medalist Manuel Félix Díaz

Danny is signed to boxing's Warriors Promotions. On March 19, 2010 O'Connor won an eight round decision over veteran Franklin Gonzalez.
