Family

Akin is married to Charlotte (5/27/78) and they have four sons: Nathan, Jonathan, Paul, and Timothy. They have 3 daughters-in-laws and 6 grandchildren. All four sons are involved in Christian ministry with several having served overseas.
Has a brother Sam and a sister Joy. Sam has a son and two daughters. Joy has a son and two daughters.

Abstinence

Ecumenical relations

In November 2009, Akin signed an ecumenical statement known as the Manhattan Declaration calling on Evangelicals, Catholics and Orthodox not to comply with rules and laws permitting abortion, same-sex marriage and other matters that go against their religious consciences.
