from 1937 to 1949, City Manager of Haverhill, Massachusetts from 1951 to 1955, Town Manager of Saugus, Massachusetts
from 1956 to 1958, and Chairman of the Massachusetts Republican State Committee
from 1958 to 1961.
He was a candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts in 1950
. He finished fourth in the Republican primary with 11.64% of the vote.
Following his tenure as Republican Chairman, McLean was appointed by Governor of John A. Volpe
to serve as Chairman of the State Appellate Tax Board and later as a member of the State Industrial Accident Board.
