The competition consisted of multiple rounds. Teams consisted of three riders, and each race was three laps of the track with each of the riders leading for one lap. In the qualifying round, each team performed a time trial, with the top eight teams advancing to the match round. In the match round, the eight teams competed head-to-head in four seeded matches. Winners advanced to the final round, with losers receiving final rankings from 5th to 8th based on their times in the match round. The final round featured a gold medal match between the two fastest match round winners and a bronze medal match between the two slower match round winners.
